About this Viz

Invasive aquatic species are introduced exotic flora and fauna that displace native plant and animal communities. There are eleven invasive aquatic species (plant, animal) identified in Maine law as illegal to import, sell, and transport. Infestations result in habitat disruption, loss of property values, diminished water quality, reduced fishing and water recreation opportunities, along with significant expense for mitigating these environmental costs. This map shows known plant infestations in Maine waterbodies. Map is published by Maine DEP as of the date on the map.
